Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how 1001746423 Ontario Inc. (“we”, “us”, or “our”), operating the FloFile Captions desktop application and the website at flofilecaptions.com (together, the “Services”), collects, uses, and discloses personal information. We are based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Who we are

Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA)
As a Canadian organization, we handle personal information in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial requirements. We collect personal information only for purposes a reasonable person would consider appropriate in the circumstances, limit use to those purposes, and take reasonable steps to protect it.
Information we collect
Account and Google Sign-In (Firebase Authentication)
Some features of FloFile Captions may require you to sign in. When you choose Google Sign-In through Firebase Authentication, Google and Firebase process your authentication. Depending on what you authorize and what the app requests, we may receive:
- A unique user identifier (Firebase UID)
- Your Google account email address
- Your display name and profile photo URL, if provided by Google
We use this account information to authenticate you, associate preferences or cloud-synced settings with your account (when those features are enabled), provide support, and protect the Services against abuse. We do not use your Google password; Google handles credential verification.
Google’s and Firebase’s own privacy policies also apply to their processing. You can revoke the app’s access from your Google account settings.
Photos, captions, and IPTC metadata (processed locally)
FloFile Captions is designed so that your photos and IPTC metadata are processed locally on your computer. The application reads and writes caption and metadata fields on files you select on your device. We do not upload your photo libraries to our servers as part of the core captioning workflow.
Captions and metadata you create remain under your control on your device and in any delivery systems you use. If you later enable optional sync or backup features that store preferences or templates in the cloud, those features will be described in-product and only transmit the data needed for that feature—not your full image library unless you explicitly configure such a transfer.
Website and communications
If you email us, we receive the content of your message and your email address so we can respond. Our web host may automatically collect standard technical logs (such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested) to operate and secure the website.
How we use information
- To provide, maintain, and improve FloFile Captions and related support
- To authenticate users and secure accounts
- To respond to inquiries and early-access requests
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use
We do not sell your personal information.
Sharing
We may share personal information with service providers who process it on our behalf (for example, Google/Firebase for authentication, and our web hosting provider for the website), subject to appropriate safeguards. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security.
Retention
We retain account and communication records only as long as needed for the purposes described above, unless a longer period is required by law. Local photos and IPTC data on your device are retained under your own systems and policies.
Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures appropriate to the sensitivity of the information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; please protect access to your devices and accounts.
Your rights and choices
Subject to PIPEDA and applicable law, you may request access to, or correction of, personal information we hold about you, and you may withdraw consent where consent is the basis for processing (subject to legal or contractual restrictions). You may sign out of the app and revoke Google access at any time.
To make a privacy request, email dev@flofilecaptions.com with enough detail for us to verify and respond. We will respond within a reasonable time as required under applicable law.
Children
The Services are intended for professional and adult users. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
International transfers
Service providers such as Google/Firebase may process data in the United States or other countries. Where personal information leaves Canada, we take steps consistent with PIPEDA to protect it.
Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date above will be revised when changes are posted on this page.
